Name: Tabitha Lowe CommentsGreat Site, me and my husband are planning a visit up your way and we will be sure to stop in!
Name: Ron Birtles CommentsI'm 51 years old and I grew up in No. Va. and the 29 Diner was always there serving up a great breakfast. Recently my family was in Fairfax from Cary NC to attend a funeral and we found ourselves looking for a good place for a quick breakfast. There she was that wonderful stainless steel structure I remembered so well from my childhood. I told my (adult) children that we're jumping into the wayback machine and will be dining as we did in the 1950's. The classic country music came on the Juke Box and we were treated to some very large portions of eggs, pancakes and waffles. When we left the kids said that was cool and hoped we can return some day. I'm sure we started a new tradition with a new generation. Hope the diner is around for another 50 years.
Name: Sean Murray CommentsGood to see you're still around. I spent time at the 29 in the '80s with my Uncle (now passed). Your place will always have a spot in my memories, and I hope to be in the area soon.

Name: l. b. CommentsThanks for being open! We came from the mid-west a few ten years back, and were so relieved when we came to the 29 Diner (even still have some keyrings). Wih all the junk out there, you folks keep a tradition alive and well. My kids are getting older, but still remind of the time we celebrated my eldest sons' 12th birthday by going out to the 29 Diner! What a great place; it's like being back home! FYI-I am not Zippy the Pinhead, but do read the comic strip daily!
Name: John CommentsThe 29 diner is the coolest piece of history of Fairfax. It's amazing it still exists. A most amazing blast from the past. Been going there for 32 years. The pictures on this website of the diner back in the 40's dipicting the way our then rural city looked back then is priceless. I will be sure to frame that one.
Name: Bridgett CommentsI guess I started coming to the diner regularly in 1992 (being just a young thing then) and I remember spending SO much time there with cups of coffee and yummy gilled cheese sandwiches! What a great place!
Name: Bonnie Rose CommentsWOW, I can't believe I came across this. I was born in Alexandria, VA in 1947. I grew up with very fond memories of the Jefferson Village neighborhood, and cannot count the many times my daddy would drive past the 29 Diner. Although young at the time I don't actually recall stopping to eat (we were on a tight budget then and am sure I wanted to...) but upon visiting the old stomping grounds a few years ago the place brought back fond memories again. Gosh if we could only turn back time! Thanks to whoever posted this and provided the pictures and history.
Name: Richard Wahl CommentsI remember the 29 in the 1950's, mostly between '54-59. My Dad, then a Fairfax Co. policeman, used to eat there quite often. He took us, as a family, to eat there on occasion. I came back 'home' about three weeks ago, and got lost trying to find fairfax city. The maps I had were not good, and I couldn't find out just where I was, when out the right side of the car, what did I spy.......yep, the 29 diner, and I knew instantly where I was. I found Fairfax with no trouble.
Name: scooby doo Commentswow the 29 brings back some thoughts. everyday for every meal for years we all filed inside; it never felt the same when we all went our seperate ways; but pretty cool to see it on the world wide web :) funny i went back 5 years later and the waitress still remembered me and asked how everyone was, good times!
Name: Jenn Woisard CommentsJosh,Chris? I'd love to hear from you again. Chris, it was great seeing you in Idaho, but geez, that was about 10 years ago. My how things change. Angie, we love you. It was great seeing you in September! Big love...
Name: Rob Nine Commentssuch fond memories of the "tastee". sitting in front of the grill, giving "Cookie" a hard time and watching the strangers cough up a quarter for the jukebox when they asked what "YCJCYAQFTJB" meant. LONG LIVE THE TASTEE 29.

Name: Beth H CommentsThe staff of the Val Kilmer Film Festival enjoyed a Tastee breakfast following the end of our weekend festivities on October 12, 2003. The legendary great service was matched by terrific coffee and delicious food. We had a diverse group of guests from all over the country, and everyone was able to find a favorite dish on the menu. Thank you for adding an unusual ending of historic interest to our festival weekend.

Name: Gregg CommentsI had a flashback to my younger years when I ate at the 29. I've talked about real diners (not the chains that use the name nowadays)with my daughter for years. Luckily I was able to take her to dinner with me to show her what a diner really is!!! The food was great...the service was great...and even the customers in there were great! Thanks for a fine time and for bringing back a flood of wonderful memories!

Name: Bill Bagley CommentsGood evening. I was looking up some info on the Denny's chain, which was started in 1953 in my former town of residence Lakewood, CA (a suburb of Long Beach). As I was looking through the various sites, I came across the Tastee 29 Diner history. Very cool. I attended USMC Officer's Candidate School in Quantico, VA in 1982. My buddies and I visited our nation's capitol on weekeends. These trips took us to Fairfax, Arlington, and Alexandria. When dining out, we attmpted not to visit chain restaurants. We hit many in the area, but not the 29. The next time I head east, I'll need to find the 29. Take care. Name: 3-kus CommentsWe are building a diner in IJmuiden(10 miles from amsterdam),holland(europe)and found a lot of interesting items on your site,so we can use some idees in our project. Also the menucards are very hard to find here.Keep up the good work, thanks

CommentsTastee Diner was the setting for some of my best memories. Aside from working there one summer as the short-order cook, I spent most of my afternoons during highschool sitting in one of the booths drinking gallons of coffee. Whenever I'm in town, I never pass up the chance to stop by. -Laura Chipley

Name: Rob Eisner CommentsHi, from a distant relative .. the classic vintage West Taghkanic Diner, up in Columbia County (Hudson Valley), New York -- in business here since 1953, and, like the 29'er in Fairfax, a Mountain View Diner! (that's right- we had the same parents); only, the 29'er was born six years before the Taghkanic Diner came out of the chute in Singac, NJ. BTW- ByTheWay: aside from the {obvious} fact that there aren't many of us left, were always interested in locating other family members (Mountain View Diners), and, ARE there any MV's out there older than the 29'er Diner? If anyone can answer that Q., please get in-touch. STAY WELL! ~~ Rob --=[ http://www.TaghkanicDiner.com ]=-- |
